Interventional radiologists are specialized doctors who perform minimally invasive image-guided procedures (MIIPs) to diagnose and treat diseases, such as cancer, stroke, uterine fibroids, and more.
They use X-rays and other imaging techniques to see inside the body, which allows them to guide a catheter through an incision the size of a pinhole and to the problem to treat it internally.
For over 20 years, interventional radiologists have performed uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), an MIIP which provides women with a nonsurgical option to treat their fibroids. This approach offers minimal risk and a shorter recovery time in comparison to conventional surgery.
